Corner Mix n°9

Ninth appointment with our Corner Mix, a composition of products from our modern catalog for lovers of vintage and design from the 50s and 60s.

This week we have created a lively and modern composition in which curved lines are king.

Today’s ‘signature’ is the Maralunga sofa, designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina in the 80s.

The peculiarity lies in the continuity of the shapes: the legs are covered like the rest of the sofa and going up they fold becoming the armrest.
In addition, the backrest is equipped with a folding headrest “suitable to allow use in low or high version, with instant convertibility”.

Vico Magistretti, was one of the most famous Italian architects and designers, and actively participated in the post-war reconstruction; among the most important urban projects the QT8 district in Milan.
In terms of product design, perhaps his most famous creation is the Eclisse lamp, designed in 1965 for Artemide and winner of the Compasso d’Oro.

In accordance with the sinuous lines of the sofa we chose a 60s piece of furniture, made of curved plywood and characterized by curved lines both in the drawers and in the handles. This type of processing allows to obtain very varied surfaces while preserving (and improving) the typical structural properties of wood.

The wooden part is supported by an external metal structure.

To illuminate the composition we think a 60s lamp in opal glass and oval-shaped metal. This lively light point can be easily inserted in many different environments thanks to the simplicity of its shape.
