Last appointment of 2019 with the 19th Design Icon: we close with the Italian designer par excellence, Gio Ponti and his Water Lily.
Just like the flower from which it takes its name, the Ninfea by Gio Ponti is a summer session, to be opened during the day, under the sun, and to be closed at nightfall… Beautiful, graceful and at the same time gritty; Our icon of the week is a real must have for lovers of vintage (and relaxation).
In 1958 Ponti designed the Ninfea folding chair for the Reguitti Brothers, a company that until the end of the 70s was extremely active in Italy in the production of multipurpose furniture and furnishing accessories. Suffice it to say that from 1946 to 1966 he filed 124 patents!.
Many of you will surely remember the elegant “mute servants”, exquisitely 50s, who made it famous (like the one below).
The Ninfea is the result of one of the collaborations that the Reguitti Brothers strategically established with the best designer of the time (and probably of the entire twentieth century).
An elegant, fine and extremely functional product, a perfect synthesis between craftsmanship and industrial design.
The can be found with structure in wood of beech or in solid walnut, the sitting and backrest are available in two variants: with padding and coating fabric or in wicker.
It is a chair halfway between a deckchair and a tripolina, designed for classy outdoor environments.
Ideal for the garden, terrace or veranda… but also for the interiors, given the great charm of this piece. to create an inimitable and original mid-century environment.
Gio Ponti was a multifaceted and tireless creator who shaped the taste of Italians in the post-war period. A brilliant pioneer who, in addition to splendid architecture and countless design objects, has left us another important legacy: the invitation to surround ourselves with beauty in every moment of our lives.
P.S. Given the great success of our Design Icons we decided to renew the weekly appointment also in 2020. If you have heart furnishings that you want to see in this column, go ahead. We accept advice, suggestions, frizz and lazzi!
